Madeleine Gordon is a writer at the Her Campus Carleton chapter. Her favourite topics to write about include popular culture, social justice and arts.
Outside of Her Campus, Maddy is a journalism student at Carleton University and a volunteer reporter at The Charlatan. Although her passion for writing was born in her younger years — mostly in the form of melodramatic poetry and senseless short stories — Maddy's genuine writing experience began in her third year of high school at The Lake Report, a community newspaper local to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. Her first editorial, written at 16, tells the story of a group of high school students rallying for change in the handling of sexual assault cases in the public school system. Since then, Maddy's dedication toward fighting for social justice has continued to grow, along with her love of writing in a journalistic voice.
Beyond her academic life, Maddy enjoys playing the guitar, listening to music and spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid concert-goer and is always wearing her headphones on the way to class, often listening to Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey. Maddy strives to spread positivity through her writing while finding her voice as a journalist.
