Hi! My name is Lauren, and I am a fourth-year transfer majoring in sociology, with particular interests in social justice and human rights. I have way too many interests to count, but it certainly helps that I love learning about almost anything and everything. Anyone who gets to know me will quickly discover that I am always asking questions and trying to understand the deeper “why” behind the people, problems, and world around me. If there is something to analyze, research, or overthink in the best way possible, there is a very good chance that I have already gone down a rabbit hole to learn more about it.
I am drawn to anything that tells a story or reveals something meaningful about how we live and connect as people. My life has been deeply shaped by my health issues and disabilities; although those experiences can be incredibly difficult, they have given me a unique perspective on life and the world around me. They have strengthened my passion for accessibility, disability rights, and creating space for more honest conversations. No two lives are the same, and I believe that acknowledging and validating those differences with compassion and openness is an important part of making the world a better place.
Outside of school, I love baking, listening to music, and watching movies—especially rom-coms, musicals, and most things in the Disney and Marvel universe. I also love spending time with my family, friends, and three cats. My playlists usually range from Taylor Swift and Kelsea Ballerini to Alex Warren, with forever favorites like One Direction and Little Mix always in the mix. I also love all things sparkly, plushies, and collecting stickers that I am highly unlikely to use. Although I definitely lean more creative and artsy than sporty and athletic, I love the energy and atmosphere of school games and will happily venture into the world of sports for those, as well as for gymnastics, and the Olympics and Paralympics. I am really excited to be joining the Her Campus team at UCI and to share my curiosity, perspective, and personality through my writing.
