I’ve never been good at keeping my opinions to myself, so I turned it into a career path. I’m Kate Cherney, a first-year at Washington State University majoring in Broadcast News and Sports Communications. My love for storytelling started in high school, when I was editor of our newspaper and learned that asking the big journalism questions is basically a polite form of being nosy. I’ve also interned in media and business development for a local engineering company.
I’m a big believer that sports tell some of the best human stories, which is why my dream is to work in sports media. Whether I’m interviewing an athlete or covering a campus event, I’m always looking for the moments that make people connect and say, “I’ve been there too.”
Outside of work and school, you’ll probably find me reading, exploring new music, or crafting playlists for specific moods like “walking to class like I’m in a rom-com”. If my writing makes you laugh, think, or text a friend “this is so us,” then I’ve done my job. <3
