Karis is a second-year student at UC Davis, double majoring in Comparative Literature and Global Disease Biology on the pre-medical track. She is passionate about the stories, cultures, and ideals conveyed through language, as well as the discovery of archaic and idiosyncratic words that give literature its unique character. To Karis, literature is both an invention and a reflection of life itself—a powerful means of understanding societies and our shared human experiences. Her passion for writing has also led her to publish her own poetry collection, Whispers of Another Realm.
Her interests in literature and medicine are rooted in the same curiosity: a desire to understand and care for the human experience from both the mind and body. While literature offers new worlds to explore through stories and writing, medicine provides the opportunity to understand the human body and improve lives through science and treatment. Through her work with Her Campus, Karis hopes to combine her love of writing with her passion for creating thoughtful, informative, and meaningful content.
Outside of academics and writing, Karis enjoys figure skating and playing the piano, both of which give her creative outlets beyond the page.
