Hi! I’m Kamiya, a Sustainability Studies major at The University of Texas at Austin with a love for storytelling, the environment, and all things creative. Around campus, you can usually find me working with UT Farm Stand or cheering on the Longhorns while supporting both the women’s and men’s basketball teams as a Texas Darlins member.
When I’m not writing, I’m probably taking pictures, especially on film. There’s something about film photography that has me absolutely obsessed. I’m also almost always listening to music, and if the song is devastating enough, even better. Some of my current favorites are Noah Kahan, Phoebe Bridgers, and Gracie Abrams. In my free time, I love reading, with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo being one of my all-time favorites, or finding a new movie or show to obsess over. My current binge? Scandal. I also fully believe the weather should determine what I watch, so I've been watching plenty of rainy-day movies and fall comfort shows lately.
Beyond my creative hobbies, I’ve always felt especially connected to the ocean and the environment, which has shaped both my academic interests and my future career goals. One day, I would love to work for National Geographic and combine storytelling, conservation, and my love for the natural world. Until then, writing for Her Campus is one of my creative outlets and a little passion project where I get to share the things I love, think about, and obsess over.
