Hi! My name is Julie Roman-Catalan, and I am a freshman here at U of I, majoring in Human Development & Family Studies. I chose this field because I’m passionate about supporting families and our youth. My long-term goal is to work with organizations that help connect teens and families with resources they may need. I strive to be the person that makes these programs well known to the community.
Before coming to college, I gained valuable experience through two internships. As a library intern with the Chicago Public Library, I interacted with the public on a daily basis, decorated community spaces, and promoted upcoming events and opportunities. I also planned and hosted programs for all ages, from story times for children to workshops for adults, which taught me how to engage diverse groups and manage events from start to finish. On top of that, my Lutz Leadership Internship allowed me to explore my organizational and communication skills by designing flyers, advertising activities, and helping host building-wide events for the local community.
Outside of school and experiences, I love to listen to all kinds of music, hang out with my friends, and take walks around campus. I'm very excited to see what's to come in this new journey.
