Jiya is a junior at UC Berkeley majoring in Political Science. This is her first semester on the writing staff, and she is excited to write and share stories that blend creative expression with personal anecdotes. She enjoys using storytelling as a way to reflect on identity, community, and the experiences that shape student life.
On campus, Jiya serves as the Basic Needs Executive for the Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC), where she works to address food insecurity, housing instability, and resource accessibility for students. She is passionate about building systems that make higher education more equitable and supportive.
Jiya is also a member of Cal Bhangra, where she trains and competes at competitions across the country. Dance has been a long-standing part of her life, and being on a competitive team at Berkeley allows her to stay connected to her culture while building community.
In her free time, Jiya enjoys going to the gym, hiking, kayaking, and exploring the city; and of course, finding the best new food spots along the way.
