India’Ray Davis

Hampton U '26

India’Ray Davis is a fourth year journalism major, political science minor from Virginia Beach, VA who attends Hampton University. She seeks to employ her passion for culture, politics, and ethics into her storytelling, and become the most well-written print journalist she can.

At Hampton University India’Ray has written dozens of articles in and out of the classroom, many of which published in The Script, Hampton University’s official newspaper. As a member of WHOV TV, she wrote several broadcast scripts, and later became the Digital Director for WHOV’s digital team, where she oversees a team of writers and edits their work to be published online. Alongside writing several beats such as international, campus, arts, sports, science, and more, she also has experience with scriptwriting for film, editorial work, and investigative articles.

As a Hampton Roads native, India’Ray knew it was only right to start her journalistic journey from the ground up and begin in local news. She interned at WTKR News 3 in Norfolk, VA where she worked with investigative reporters, producers, digital writers, photojournalists, and more. Her work was published with WTKR, and her produced scripts were aired live. She also interned at WHRO, a local PBS/NPR station, where India’Ray further flexed her skills as a multimedia journalist. She booked guests, assisted on shoots and during live interviews, and even co-produced her own episode of Another View, a radio show centering African American perspective.

Within and outside of journalism, India’Ray hopes to uplift the voices of marginalized communities and those often left out of “mainstream” journalism. As the face of Hampton University’s queer and ally organization MOSAIC, as well as a senator and advisor for the LGBTQ+ Caucus on campus, she has made equity and accessibility her main focus, by passing legislation that enforces autonomy for all students. In the future she plans to work in archivism involving communities of color, and become an author.
