GEORGIANA GHITAU

Carleton '25

Georgiana is a second-year Master’s student in Migration & Diaspora Studies, specializing in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Her academic work explores the intersection of migration, human rights, and international policy, with a focus on the experiences of Latin American migrants, especially from the Northern Triangle. She previously served as a Resettlement Intern for the Durable Solutions Unit at the UNHCR, helping resettle refugees to Canada, and as a Client Support Services Practicum Student at the Catholic Centre for Immigrants (CCI), supporting newly arrived refugees and immigrants integrate into Canadian society. Georgiana also served as Vice President of the Migration & Diaspora Student Society, where she organized events and initiatives to raise awareness about global migration issues.

Georgiana is actively engaged in international affairs and human rights advocacy. She participated in the United Nations World Food Forum, where she contributed to discussions on sustainable development and the impact of migration on global food systems. Her exchange experience at LUISS Guido Carli has deepened her understanding of European migration policies and their impact on displaced communities. She plans to pursue a career as a human rights and immigration lawyer, focusing on helping migrant women and children integrate into Canadian society.

Outside of her professional life, Georgiana speaks six languages—Romanian, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian—and is learning Modern Standard Arabic. She enjoys yoga, pilates, kickboxing and is a passionate football (soccer) fan. Her love of travel and exploring different cultures fuels her interest in global issues, and she finds joy in discovering new cuisines and capturing landscapes through photography. Her diverse experiences and commitment to social justice make her a strong advocate for migrants and a dynamic voice within HER Campus.
