Gabi Buckels is an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), pursuing a major in Neuroscience on the Pre-Med track. She is dedicated to helping build a diverse community filled with solidarity, equity, and inclusion to ensure that those in underrepresented and targeted groups are given a safe and loving space that they can thrive in.
Concerning her academic life, Gabi’s interest in neuroscience stems from a deep passion for understanding others, from purely biological systems to psychological functions and patterns. Neuroscience reminds her of how much beauty there is in humanity and our many differences, and it helps her feel connected to the larger world. Over the years, she has expanded upon this passion through organizing scientific labs within prefect positions, as well as serving as a counselor for Bio Drey Land, a camp designed to teach high school freshmen about biology.
Aside from academics, Gabi has a longstanding relationship with many of the arts, namely digital art, poetry, music, and theatre. She has pursued these interests by acting as Spotlight Manager, Lighting Designer, and Prop Artist for various productions, including "Heathers" and "Into the Woods". In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, composing music, playing video games, and watching her favorite movies and TV shows.
