Fabiola Canales is a junior writer for Her Campus UPR, where she writes about pop culture, fashion, music, feminism, and all the beautiful — and sometimes confusing — parts of girlhood. Through her articles, she hopes to represent young women finding their place in the world while growing into adulthood. As a longtime Her Campus reader, Fabiola joined the chapter to become part of a creative sisterhood where women can feel seen, understood, and a little less lonely.
Fabiola is a second-year Communication student, majoring in Journalism and Information at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. She speaks English, Spanish, and French. She began writing poetry at the age of seven, later writing and publishing two romance books. This earned her the pen name of “Ladybell”, which she often uses. Before journalism, she worked as a child actress through many projects in film, radio, advertisements, and television, including three years as the head judge in Telemundo’s “Puerto Rico Gana”. She also created the “K-pop Corner”, a YouTube channel featuring weekly K-pop news. In the future, she hopes to pursue journalism without ever losing the freedom, personality, or heart behind her voice.
At heart, Fabiola is a quirky romantic who collects dolls as though each one carries a tiny piece of the world. Her creative superpower is turning the struggles of everyday life into romantic prose, transforming the toughest feelings into a tender and comforting story. Fabiola is happiest surrounded by stories, nostalgia, shades of pink, and the belief that true beauty lies in freedom.
