Elizabeth Aylward

Elizabeth Aylward is a second-year journalism and political science student at Indiana University Bloomington. Hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Elizabeth has always enjoyed any forms of media that contain well told stories. She is most interested in stories that recycle familiar structures or legends and turn them into something new. She believes that story is one of the most valuable aspects of her life, and hopes to wield it in a way that is constructive and interesting.
Some of Elizabeth’s political interests include international elections in both authoritative and democratic countries and the use of the media in election outcomes. In addition to this, she is interested in communication between political scientists and the media, and ensuring that the news the public receives about elections and politics is unbiased and correct. She is especially interested in media in countries experiencing democratic backsliding.
Elizabeth also practices photojournalism, and likes to use visual mediums as a storytelling mechanism. She hopes to one day work as an international investigative journalist, screenwriter, or novelist (hopefully all three). In the meantime, her hobbies include reading and writing, swimming and running, and listening to music.
