Eesha Joshi

I am an undergraduate student currently pursuing her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and Neuroscience. The world of writing has always fascinated me, and I was actually thinking of doing a minor in Language Studies alongside my B.Sc.! My favourite part about languages are how they are a primary tool of expression consistent throughout society, and therefore can be used to truly understand and dissect the values and perspectives of different communities.

I've been writing since I was introduced to poetry in my Grade 5 literature class. It is my personal way of staying grounded and connected to myself – a tether if you will. Some of my favourite poems are by the writers Emily Dickinson ("That I did always love I bring thee Proof"), Mary Oliver (there are too many for me to quote a specific one, but I would also recommend checking out her collection of essays "Upstream"), Rabindranath Tagore ("New Rain"), Carol Ann Duffy ("Warning Her Pearls"), and Javed Akhtar ("Dil Aakhir Tu Kyun Rota Hai?"). Each of these writers have their own unique themes and characterizations of their writing that I deeply resonate with. Beyond poetry, I also love reading the works of Sudha Murty, Virginia Woolf, and R. F. Kuang! They are probably my most favourite consistent authors.

Beyond literature and language, I have a vested interest in understanding the world from a holistic perspective. I would like to acquire as much knowledge as possible that stems from various streams of belief and philosophies. As I've been learning in a North American institution, I have gotten the opportunity to familiarize myself with the knowledge and systems of this society well. Since my background is South Asian, I have grown up my whole life being taught yogic and ayurvedic philosophies! My next vested interest now is learning more about Ancient Chinese beliefs and the wisdom that was cultivated within that community.

I look at all of my life as really just a journey towards deeper curiosity, and I hope that I can continue to walk down that path further with every action I take.
