Hi! I'm Deena Westby, a rising junior at North Carolina Central University majoring in mass communication with a concentration in public relations. I'm originally from Chicago, Illinois, and I love anything that lets me be creative, tell stories and connect with people. Whether I'm writing, creating social media content or planning events, I enjoy finding ways to bring ideas to life. I've also had the opportunity to complete multiple internships with AbbVie, where I've worked on internal communications, content creation, video production and event planning. Those experiences have helped me grow both professionally and creatively, and they've confirmed that communications is exactly where I'm meant to be.
Outside of school and work, I'm involved in several campus organizations and enjoy staying active on campus. I'm always the person sending Pinterest boards, making Canva graphics or thinking of new content ideas. I also enjoy going to the gym, finding cute coffee shops, shopping secondhand and trying new restaurants whenever I get the chance.
One of my biggest goals is to use storytelling to make people feel seen and informed. Through Her Campus at NCCU, I'm excited to share stories that highlight student experiences, celebrate our campus community and create content that people can genuinely relate to. I hope my articles make someone laugh, learn something new or simply feel a little more connected to life at NCCU.
