My name is Chyna-Lee S. Hunter, I am a junior at Howard University majoring in Psychology with a minor in Journalism originally from Miami, Florida. I have gained a passion for youth empowerment, mental health advocacy, and creative expression through the experience I have endured. The hands-on experience I have gained through my roles such as Program Instructor at GirlPower Rocks, where I worked with at-promise children, and as an Aid at South Florida Mental Health and Recovery, supporting children with mental health challenges. Surpassing just my academic and professional pursuits, I have been deeply involved on campus and community organizations, serving as a mentor, ambassador, and active member of groups including Howard University SISTUHS Inc., Models of the Mecca, DC Initiative and Mentorship, and Her Campus magazine. My experiences ranging from participating in New York Fashion Week as a makeup artist to leading volunteer initiatives reflects my dedication to combining creativity, service, and leadership.
Growing up in Miami, I experienced firsthand the challenges within my city’s education system and the impact it has on local youth. From struggling with low reading levels to lacking an understanding of the value of learning, the youth of this community faces barriers that demand our attention and action. I want to take responsibility to create spaces where they can truly grow and thrive. With my background in psychology and my training in journalism, I aspire to inspire and influence the next generation while also showcasing my creative work on a broader scale and uplifting the remarkable work of others through my writing.
