Carolina Mercado is a senior at Michigan State University (MSU) who studies Professional and Public Writing, with minors in sociology and Spanish. She has experience with copywriting (writing newsletters and website copy), editing (literary editing and copyediting), research (interviews, survey design, and secondary research), and graphic design (Adobe and Canva). All of these skills have led her to combine writing and design with her other passions of advocacy and cultural analysis by working for organizations centered around social justice. Including Digital Humanities at MSU and Prevention Outreach and Education at MSU. After graduating, she hopes to pursue a PhD in Sociology, with a focus on gender and sexuality dynamics, and teach at a Research 1 university.
Outside of her academics, Carolina has danced with MSU Salsa Club since her freshman year and has been on their e-board as a publicist for the past two years. This is her first year writing for HerCampus, a women-based magazine. Her other hobbies include reading, painting, drawing, and writing creative nonfiction and poetry.
