Autumn Johnstone is a junior at the University of Florida, double majoring in Art and Journalism with a minor in Greek. She is passionate about music journalism, arts reporting, and telling stories that connect readers to the people and communities behind them. As part of the Her Campus editorial team, Autumn values a platform that makes space for student voices and covers the stories that matter to college women.
At UF, Autumn is building her reporting experience through her work as a music and culture writer for The Independent Florida Alligator and through her editorial role at Strike Magazine. She approaches every story with empathy at its core, believing that getting emotionally affected by a source's story is a sign of good journalism rather than a lack of professionalism. Beyond the newsroom, Autumn has interned with the Art Bridges Foundation, where she conducted video interviews with nationally recognized artists and redesigned the organization's logo and brand identity.
Outside of class, Autumn is also a visual artist who works across mediums, including oil painting portraits, and has experience curating art exhibitions. She has a deep love of specialty coffee, having trained baristas and worked in cafes where she says the community connection is her favorite part of the job. She grew up in a small, traditional town, an upbringing that continues to shape the personal essays she writes today.
