I don’t know about you, but I love Lizzo. She’s a great role model – funny, beautiful, AND makes great music. Honestly, it’s about damn time that Lizzo gave us a new song. I know that we have “Rumors” ft. Cardi B., but I have been praying for a feel-good song for the summer. Luckily, she answered my prayers with the release of her latest song, “About Damn Time.”
From the first listen, I’ve been obsessed with this song. By that I mean it’s been on repeat since the day it dropped. Honestly, this is the disco-pop track that I’ve been waiting for. The beat is infectious, the lyrics are fun, and the music video had a great message. Also, let’s not forget about her outfit in the music video; a blue sequined jumpsuit (the serve).
The chorus is one of my favorite parts, and the vocals match the guitar so well. Every time I hear it, I just want to get up and dance. Don’t even get me started on “I’m gonna be alright.” The way she sings down the scale and the little bells matching. That itches a part of my brain, and gets me every time. The only thing I don’t like about the song is the length – I wish it was a bit longer. Personally, I think she should’ve added one more chorus – It would’ve perfectly fit in after the bridge. Then she could’ve modulated the song and served us more vocals. Nevertheless, it still was a great song, and it’s definitely going on my summer playlist.
