My 5 Staple Clothing Pieces I Basically Live In

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

I have recently been thinking about purchasing new spring clothes, as many do when it gets warmer, and I have been trying to think realistically about what types of clothes I will get the most use out of. In college, I have come to discover that wearing loungewear is what I do on a mostly daily basis. Here are the clothes I have basically lived in the past year, including some loungewear and some real clothes for the rare occasions I feel like putting on jeans.

1. Free People Solid Metti Crew

This item is no longer sold at Free People, but if you can find it resold on Poshmark/Depop, I highly recommend it. It is slightly oversized and has big pockets that are actually able to hold things, which is such a rare find for women’s clothing nowadays. I have it in the color turquoise and I got my mom one in dark grey because we both have a similar addiction to nice loungewear.

2. Reebok Club C Platform Sneakers

Are shoes clothing? Who’s to decide.

I have worn these shoes so much that they have a hole in them, which has never happened to a pair of my shoes before. I actually just ordered another pair this morning because they FINALLY restocked. If you are looking for a casual yet comfy shoe that is much cuter than a pair of white Nike Air Force 1s, I highly recommend buying these. They will become your new go-to pair of shoes and you will probably also wear a hole into them as I did.

3. Gap Vintage Soft High Rise Fleece Joggers

I recently purchased these after seeing my friend Maggie wearing them in the hot pink color. They are exactly the fit of the trendy Brandy Melville joggers, but even thicker/warmer and so much cheaper. I got a pair in navy blue and another pair in creamy white, and I know they will be my go-to joggers from now on. I might even buy the pink pair too.

4. Girlfriend Collective Leggings

I bought these leggings after my friend got me a pair of joggers from Girlfriend Collective. I loved the company’s message and the quality of their stuff is so nice. I got a matching halter crop top with the leggings (both in the color Forest) and I practically lived in the outfit this summer. The set is cute to wear together and also separately with other tops or bottoms. The cool thing about Girlfriend Collective is that once you are done with an item, you can mail it back to them and exchange it for a new piece, and they will recycle your old item and use it to make new clothes. I will definitely be buying more workout gear before summer starts.

5. Free People Cropped Run Tank

The final item that I am very excited to purchase more of is my summer staple top. I work and live at a beach club in the summer, so it is very nice to have easy and light summer clothes that go with everything. This top/bra is so comfortable and is the perfect level of cropped to wear with high-waisted shorts/jeans. You can dress it up and down and it looks so cute layered. I even work out in it from time to time, although it’s not too supportive for HIIT stuff. I will definitely be buying more as they have a bunch of cute color options.

These are my staple wardrobe pieces that I definitely recommend trying out!
