Summer is just around the corner as finals are wrapping up and students are preparing to move back home. Sunny days full of laughter and memories are on the horizon and I’m getting into the summer mood by listening to some great tunes. Whether you have a road trip ahead of you (like myself), are in need of some good background music by the pool, or just need to switch things up for the new season, here is a list of the top artists I’d recommend this summer.

The happy fits

The Happy Fits are a pop band from New Jersey, whose music I would describe as beachy-alternative-pop. The top songs I would recommend from The Happy Fits this summer is “So Alright, Cool, Whatever”, “She Wants Me (To Be Loved)”, and “Too Late”. All of these songs will make you feel like you’re at a bonfire at the beach with your friends at midnight.

peter mcpoland

Peter McPoland is an up-and-coming artist from TikTok. His music feels as though it encapsulates a young adult’s pining in life, to live and to love with an almost reckless abandon. I would recommend Peter McPoland’s “Shit Show”, “Romeo & Juliet”, and he’s releasing a new song on April 23rd!

Tessa violet

Tessa Violet was once a YouTuber, but became a pop sensation full time. Her music is cheeky and addicting and the best soundtrack to a girl’s night. Her 2019 album, Bad Ideas, is full of hits after hits, but I would especially recommend Violet’s “Crush”, “Wishful Drinking”, “Bad Ideas”, and “Games”.

The Backseat lovers

The Backseat Lovers are an indie-rock quartet from Utah, and have a similar vibe to The Happy Fits, however are less beachy and more-so ‘let’s party at an airbnb’. Therefore, The Backseat Lovers are perfect for any airbnb trips you might take this summer! The top songs I would recommend are “Pool House”, “Maple Syrup”, and “Kilby Girl”.

honorable mentions

Honorable mentions for artists that you should listen to this summer 2022 include:

  1. Phoebe Bridgers: “Motion Sickness” and “Kyoto”
  2. Neon Trees: “Everybody Talks” and “Animal”
  3. Peach Pit: “Shampoo Bottles”
  4. Wallows: “Drunk on Halloween” and “1980’s Horror Film”
  5. Summer Salt, Vampire Weekend, and Hippo Campus

Music is a great way to bring your summer vacation to life and it’s also refreshing to step outside of your comfortable rotation of music, so give these artists a listen! Make the soundtrack to your summer 2022 one to remember!
