A Few Things I’ve Learned from College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lafayette chapter.

People experience rapid personality growth a few times in their life. Once when they’re in high school, a second time in college, and for a final time when they’re an adult. I am definitely not the same person I was in high school, and with this growth, I’ve developed new views on life. Wisdom comes from experience, so by no means am I the most wise. Still, I wish to share a few things I’ve learned.

  1. You are who you hate. As much as we’d like to believe we’re completely different from our enemies, there will always be overlap. Hypocrisy is a normal part of life.
  2. Always question those who tell you how to feel. Maybe I have trust issues, but it’s always alarming when someone tries to tell you how to think or feel. Why are they telling you this? Why does their opinion matter?
  3. Don’t waste your time on someone who doesn’t do the same for you. This one is pretty self explanatory, but it needs to be said. Actions speak louder than words, so if someone doesn’t make an effort to hang out, then maybe you should reevaluate your friendship.
  4. If you talk about other people negatively, you’ll find that you’re talked about in the same manner. We all love a good gossip session, but I find that while entertaining in the moment, it might come back to bite you. At the end of the day, the key to gaining influence is positivity!

Hopefully, these useful tips will help you get through college as they have for me.
