1. The Curling Iron

Growing up, I only used curling irons. When I started doing my own hair for special occasions, I tried to use my mom’s curling iron. I never got the hang of it. Personally, I think that traditional curling irons are a little tedious for curling your hair. But, there are now more interesting and elaborate curling irons that weren’t around when I first learned. Although not my favorite, the curling iron is a classic.

2. The Curling Wand

Curling wands were my go-to hair curling method before I tried other methods. In my experience, it took a lot of time and effort to achieve tight curls with my thicker hair texture. My curls came out too thick and did not last as long. However, I’ve heard some people with different hair textures say that curling irons are the quickest and easiest curling method for them.

3. Heatless Curls

Heatless curls come in all shapes and sizes. There are many youtube and TikTok videos that show different methods of creating the perfect curl without heat, from using traditional rollers to wrapping your hair in a t-shirt. I have tried a lot of these methods, but mostly I’ve found that heatless curling leaves my hair feeling frizzier than the alternatives. Not to mention, I barely get any sleep with the twists in my hair! However, they’re worth a shot if you want to protect your hair from the heat. The latest trend is the rope twirl heatless curl.

4. The Straightener

It’s tricky to create curls using a straightener, but it’s also my personal favorite. The curls come out light, bouncy, and sleek. Plus, it is super quick once you get the hang of it! It can be difficult to master but using a straightener helps me save a lot of packing space when going out of town for a weekend. Cynthia Dhimdis’ video is a helpful tutorial.

Whatever tool you choose, wear your curls with confidence.
