Love Playlists for the Zodiac Signs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

As any follower of astrology knows, each of the 12 signs have distinct core personality traits. Therefore, each sign acts differently when they’re in love.

When it comes to love, one of my biggest inspirations, or forms of comfort, is music. Whether it’s about being in love, heartbreak, self-love, family, life, etc., every song tells a story from a different point of view.

The Sanctuary World app describes each of the signs’ key personality traits; the good and the bad. From this, and an article from Insider, I created 16 playlists full of songs for the 12 signs and the four elements. They’re full of songs from the point of view of — or about — each sign, taking in their key personality traits and the way they act when they’re in love.

Check your Sun, Moon, Ascendent, and Venus Placements! Or save them all and listen to them when certain planets enter the signs!

♈ Aries

On a good day, Aries is passionate, fearless, enthusiastic, playful, and independent. On a bad day, they can be bossy, impulsive, short-tempered, competitive, or short-sighted. As a fire sign, their passion and naturally strong nature makes them enticing in a relationship. They are easy to love, but not as easy to receive love from. They are charming and seductive, but tend to fall on the side of cocky. They can be a bit too self-centered, even though they might see it as cocky.

This playlist is a collection of songs for and about the Aries, from Taylor Swift’s “I Forgot That You Existed,” to Adele’s “Come and Get It.”

♉ Taurus

At their best, Taurus has a radiant and gravitating energy. They’re loyal, trustworthy, supportive, luxurious, and romantic. However, at their lowest, look out for materialism, laziness, arrogance, and stubbornness. When a Taurus is in love, they are in love. They spoil their partner with gifts and attention in the most passionate way possible. As an Earth sign, flings most likely don’t come easy; they’ll want to stay grounded and solid in a relationship. This does, however, make it hard for them to know when to leave a bad situation.

Lucky for our Taurus playlist, the inner turmoil of loving someone you know is bad for you makes for great music. Songs like “Just Give Me a Reason,” by Pink and Nate Ruess and “Cherry,” by Harry Styles are some of my favorites.

♊ Gemini

Geminis are some of the best friends or partners you could have. Their energy is caring, patient, compassionate, thoughtful, and loyal. Their bad days, though, can be full of insecurity, suspicion, pessimism, and touchiness. This can translate directly into romantic relationships. Geminis tend to need constant communication and affection from their partner, otherwise they won’t feel secure. They’re also an air sign, so when it comes to communicating their own feelings, they can be a bit flighty and indirect. They’re always on the lookout for the best possible opportunity, so if you’re a potential object of a Gemini’s affection, you may not always know where you stand with them.

In this playlist, Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away,” and 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Why Won’t You Love Me,” depict the Gemini’s flighty nature and longing for constant affection.

♋ Cancer

The Cancer: everyone’s favorite water sign. As one of the more emotional signs in the zodiac, at their worst Cancer can be stubborn, selfish, self-isolating, and passive-aggressive. But at their best, a Cancer’s energy is playful, brave, encouraging, passionate, and even spontaneous. In relationships, Cancers are home-bodies; they will express their love by making their living space as tidy and comfortable as possible for their partner. While the sentiment has good intentions, it can be a bit overbearing, like a mother. And no one wants to date their mother.

The Cancer’s sincerity is in their playlist in songs like “Enough For You,” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Someone You Loved,” by Lewis Capaldi.

♌ Leo

According to Insider, Leo’s are the best catch of the Zodiac. Leo energy is generous, elegant, ambitious, and loyal, with the occasional touch of narcissism, arrogance, and domination. In love, Leos are 100% loyal. They have big, unselfish hearts; even in bed. Their fierce loyalty to a partner makes them the perfect long-term partner, as long as their dominating-nature doesn’t get in the way. There’s a moment when jealousy stops being attractive and becomes controlling.

The Leo’s playlist contains songs from a Leo’s POV, like “see you later (10 years),” by Jenna Raine or “Steal My Girl,” by One Direction — a song for and about the Leo.

♍ Virgo

As one of the most rational zodiac signs, Virgos definitely don’t fall for just anyone. Their organized, naturally hard-working nature can sometimes lead to codependency, anxiety, and perfectionism. They can become dependent on their partner’s faithfulness and build up trust issues where there might not be any. However, when they feel safe and secure in a relationship, they will fall hard. They know when it’s right.

The Virgo playlist describes all aspects of their loving-style in songs like “hoax,” by Taylor Swift and “Feels Like This,” by Maisie Peters — one of my personal favorite descriptions of being in love.

♎ Libra

Libra energy can be peaceful, artistic, and charming, but also indecisive, full of brown-nosing, passive-aggressive behavior, and self-absorption. This translates directly to their nature in relationships. They are very devoted to their partner and can be very easy-going. However, their go-with-the-flow energy might flow a little too easily, causing them to lose themselves in their partner. Their partner’s needs surpass everything else, compromising a Libra’s own needs. They are hopelessly devoted: a blessing and a curse.

In the Libra playlist, some of my favorite depictions of a Libra in a relationship include Ariana Grande’s “Positions,” and Us the Duo’s “Not For the Better.”

♏ Scorpio

With their reputation as the most sensual sign, Scorpio energy is magnetic, seductive, ambitious, and imaginative at their best. At their worst though, they can become vindictive, manipulative, and obsessive. In a relationship, they crave passion, both between the sheets and in a deep connection with their partner. Deep connections are, of course, important for any relationship to be as strong as it could be, but there are downfalls to that when it comes to a Scorpio. They can get jealous and territorial. The harder Scorpios fall, the more they fear getting hurt.

This Scorpio playlist includes songs like “better off,” by Ariana Grande and “Piece of You,” by Shawn Mendes.

♐ Sagittarius

As a true fire sign, Sagittarius energy is passionate, adventurous, and comical, with their occasional recklessness, wastefulness, and impatience. Their passionate nature crosses over into travel. They tend to want to immerse their partners in different cultures and parts of the world; they love exploring with them. A Sagittarius might not be the best at expressing their feelings, but they are always willing and able to do whatever they can to make their partner happy.

Some of the fiery songs in the Sagittarius playlist include “Hotel,” by Claire Rosinkranz, and “WTF Do I Know,” by Miley Cyrus.

♑ Capricorn

As a Capricorn myself, I have to say this is my favorite of the 16 playlists I created. Capricorn energy can be mature, responsible, enterprising, and persevering; or it can be pessimistic, opportunistic, and detached. Because of these bad-energy days, it can be difficult to break through a Capricorn’s emotional walls. Their trust has to be earned, they won’t just give it away at the drop of a hat. However, if you can check off all of the Capricorn’s boxes and gain your way in, you will be showered with an abundance of love.

My Capricorn playlist has songs like “i love you,” by Billie Eilish, and “Every Way,” by Rex Orange County.

♒ Aquarius

Aquarians can be the most confusing to love. Their free-thinking and inventive energy can be masked by their tendencies to detach, miscommunicate, and be the loudest person in the room — metaphorically and/or literally. Their free energy is given to everyone, so it can be difficult to know if you’re actually the subject of their affection or just another person passing through their life. Those in a relationship with an Aquarius might not feel they are getting enough attention at times, due to their tendency to hide their emotions.

The Aquarius playlist is full of tunes about the classic air sign, such as “Like To Be You,” by Shawn Mendes and Julia Michaels, and “Be The One,” by Dua Lipa.

♓ Pisces

Pisces is the true definition of a hopeless romantic. The best side of a Pisces will be creative, intuitive, compassionate, and dreamy. On the other hand, at the worst, they can be flighty, delusional, and destructive to themselves or others. They wear their hearts on their sleeves, unfortunately making them more susceptible to getting hurt. They are so loving and want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, sometimes leading them into the arms of someone who is capable of hurting them.

As my rising sign, I may or may not have given the Pisces playlist closer attention. In it are songs like “Don’t Forget,” by Demi Lovato and “Wish You Were Sober,” by Conan Gray.
