5 Clothing Items I Can’t Live Without

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Everyone has those items in their closet that they can always count on. For me, these items are things that can provide comfort while still allowing me to pull off a semi-fashionable look. Here are the top five items in my closet right now:

1. Baggy Jeans

I will never go back to skinny jeans — and no it’s not because TikTok decided to boycott them. Ever since I was a kid, I hated wearing jeans because of how uncomfortable tight denim felt. I would tolerate it if I wanted to wear something nicer than leggings or sweatpants to school, but it was not a common occurrence. Then

mom jeans became trendy and I was finally aware that I could wear jeans without the discomfort. Fast forward to today, I have zero skinny jeans in my wardrobe and for the first time I can confidently say that I love jeans. My favourite style right now is the “baggy jean” style at Garage.

2. Aritzia Super puff

As somebody who can’t stand the cold but lives in Canada, I need something that will keep me warm. Everyone and their mother has heard of the popular Super Puff from Aritzia. This year, I decided to hop onto the trend and get one. It did not disappoint. Warmest coat ever!

The plus side: it comes in so many styles and colours so there is something for everyone.

3. Doc Martens

Doc Martens are my go-to boots. Breaking them in takes forever, but once you do, you’ll never hesitate to reach for them. They look good with almost everything I own. So, whenever I’m in doubt about a shoe choice, I can count on my docs. I’ve had mine for years and they are still in perfect condition, and I’m surprised I haven’t started an entire collection based on the variety of shoe styles they offer.

4. Simple cropped tops

I tend to always choose crop tops when shopping because I love pairing them with super high waisted pants. I’ve learned that sometimes the more simple the top the better.

Don’t get me wrong — I love a graphic tee, but having a few plain white, black or neutral coloured tops is key. It makes it so easy to dress up or down. You can add a blazer and dress-pants for a formal look, keep it casual in everyday wear, or like the image above: take a risk and add cowboy boots with a cow-print accessory for a fun western vibe!

5. Sweats

When in doubt, a nice sweat set is never a bad idea. I recently bought a set from Cotton On and am obsessed with it. It is perfect for lounging around the house, but it is also a great outfit idea for the days you need to go out but don’t feel the best. I can go out in comfort, but still look somewhat put together in a matching crewneck and pants!

Thanks to these closet essentials, I always have something to reach for and never need to overthink my outfit choices on busy mornings!
