For years Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have kept America in a chokehold. It all began with their picture-perfect engagement. West rented out the stadium where the San Francisco Giants play and the two were met by an orchestra and fireworks, all of which was aired on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” for everyone to see.
Six years and four kids later, the two have announced their divorce. They have been on different paths for the past few years. While many celebrities have handled public divorces, their split appears to be more complex with Kardashian telling Vogue about the many factors leading to their divorce and her mindset coming out of all this.
They announced their divorce in early January last year. For the duration of their divorce, the two have remained constant in the news, especially in recent weeks. Both have returned to the dating scene, but it is clear that Kardashian has kept moving forward while West seems to be taking a jealous turn.
It wasn’t until this winter that the small, odd changes in West became more evident. He left his Wyoming home to move just down the street from his ex-wife and their kids. To many, this seemed like a step in the right direction for the co-parents.
From there, West began his social media rant. Fans backed him after posting a video explaining that he was not invited to their daughter, Chicago’s, birthday party. The family explained that this was just a misunderstanding and that he is always welcome to family events.
Shortly after this, West once again used his children to spark attention around his divorce. This time he went on a posting spree about his eldest daughter North’s TikTok account. He wrote in all caps about how he was against her use of the app and that he should have a say in his daughter’s life.
She followed West by responding to him and his fans via Instagram story.
“Divorce is difficult enough on our children, and Kanye’s obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all,” Kardashian wrote.
In the same post she took time to explain that she wanted North to use Tiktok as a way to “express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision,” and it is clear that Kim is present on the account with her, the username is @kimandnorth, and the comments are turned off.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there. West has since been continuously spamming social media. He posted about Billie Eilish who stopped her performance to assist a fan saying, “I wait for people to be ok before I keep going.” West read this as a comment on Travis Scott’s responsibility in the Astroworld deaths. He asked Eilish to apologize to Scott or else he would not perform at Coachella where the two are headlining.
His next victim was his dear friend and mentee, Kid Cudi. The two have worked together and even have an album together. Cudi is a friend of Pete Davidson and brought the two into contact. It is now confirmed that Pete and Kim are dating. Kanye posted that Cudi will not be on his upcoming album because “he’s friends with you know who,” said West.
For about a week now, West has continued this all-caps Instagram spree. Fans are encapsulated by his posts. But this isn’t the first time this has happened. Earlier in 2021, he took to Twitter to address that Kardashian wanted him to seek help.
West struggles with bipolar disorder and has used his music and social media to be open about his mental illness.
While the couple began the divorce process over a year ago, it is clear that West is prolonging the process.
“From the beginning I have wanted nothing but a healthy and supportive co-parenting relationship… and it saddens me that Kanye continues to make it impossible every step of the way,” Kardashian said.
