Why Wordle is Good for Mental Health

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

Everyone has been playing Wordle recently – the website that puts out a new word every day at midnight and gives you 6 chances to guess it correctly. It is the type of game that could easily become extremely addicting, but here are three reasons why I think Wordle is actually good for mental health.

  1. It gives something to look forward to each day. Having at least one small thing a day to be excited about, and that will bring you happiness, is extremely important. Although a small task, it can really turn your day around.
  2. It provides you a few minutes of “me- time”. Having a couple of minutes that is automatically set aside for yourself is important. Not only is this reserved time helpful to remove yourself from the stress of everyday life, but Wordle itself is a brain stimulator! It will help you get out of your school mindset for a little.
  3. It only gives one word a day. If wordle was an app that constantly reset after every word, it would be addicting and a distraction. Because there’s only one word a day, it doesn’t become another app on your phone that you get lost in for an hour or so. It’s concept allows people to take a break from life, which is what apps tend to do, but in a realistic time frame and does not get in the way of focusing on more important things.
