Reasons Everyone Needs to Watch Dirty Dancing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

Last night two of my roommates decided to put on the classic Dirty Dancing and watch it for the first time. Naturally after hearing this, I immediately crashed their viewing party as it is my favorite movie of all time. I watched it for the first time when I was around 14 and it is a timeless classic. I never will get sick of it no matter how often I rewatch it. I did stay up past my bedtime, but it was for sure worth it.

With that all being said, here is my list of reasons why everyone needs to watch Dirty Dancing at LEAST one time… probably will want to watch it more though.

The Music

The music in this show is beyond words, like c’mon “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes,” and “Be My Baby” are staples to this movie and staples to the music industry. After watching this movie once there is no way that you’ll be able to listen to these songs without thinking of the exact moment they were played.

The Dancing

Watching the beautiful dancing between Johnny and Penny, two professional dancers, is mesmerizing. This also makes it that much more interesting when (I won’t spoil much) Penny has a situation and Baby needs to fill in. Watching the two of them teach Baby how to dance when she knows nothing about dancing is hilariously fun and beautiful to watch for the transition in her skill.

Patrick Swayze

That’s it. That’s the comment.

The Final Scene

Now THIS is the best scene in the entire movie. This is what made me stay up because I couldn’t just start the movie and not watch what it’s all leading up to. To give a hint without giving away too much, this is the part with the iconic line “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” Now I know you’re all anticipating what context that fits into.

So please watch this beautiful movie as I attempt not to watch it for the hundredth time later tonight. Trust me, you will not regret it. You’re welcome for putting you onto a new favorite movie.
