5 Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

Valentine’s Day may have snuck up on you, but there’s no reason to meet your significant other empty-handed. Instead, think on the fly and take some tips from this article.

Even if your ideas are last-minute, they can still be romantic and make Valentine’s Day a fun and memorable day. Here are 5 ideas for last-minute Valentine’s Day gifts.

1. Write a love letter.

Love letters are a perfect way to remind your SO about how much you care for them. Whether it’s romantic or funny, write something from your heart that reflects your true thoughts. Write a note that is representative of your relationship and all of the memories you’ve made together. If you’re desperate––notebook paper––but if you put some cash into it––stationery. Either way, your honest words are bound to make their heart melt.

2. Make dinner and dessert together.

This can be a great option if money is tight or if last-minute reservations are hard to come by. Instead, you can whip up your favorite meal together and have a great time doing it. Throw on whatever music fits the mood and have fun cooking and baking together. If you like, make it a competition to see who makes the best. When the food is complete, sit down at the table together, light a candle, and decide whose culinary masterpiece wins.

3. Plan a trip or outing for the future.

You may lose brownie points for not making your trip on Valentine’s Day, but plan a day (or a few) to spend together doing your favorite activities. Maybe that means a spa day, a shopping day, or even a weekend getaway. Plan a day that embodies you and your SO’s favorite way to spend quality time together. Then, jump on Canva and make a cute ticket or IOU to print out for your SO. Even if all of the details aren’t completely planned out, knowing that you’ve thought of a fun day to spend together is sweet enough.

4. Be economical—make a trip for discount candy on February 15.

We can all agree that Valentine’s Day candy is cute, but we can probably also all agree that it is an overpriced scam. Rather than showing up with hoards of expensive chocolate, put some money toward discount candy the next day. If you can, make a “couples’ outing” of it and pick out your favorite candies. This is a great way to stretch your dollar while still satisfying your tastebuds.

5. Make the ordinary extraordinary.

This may be the most valuable tip on this list because it can be performed in many ways. Even if you don’t have a huge day of romantic activities planned, make the ordinary extraordinary to show your SO how much you care. Make your pancakes in the shapes of hearts rather than circles, send an extra special “thinking of you” text, or choose your SO’s favorite TV show or movie to wind down for the night. In short, make conscious decisions that make your SO seen, heard, and loved. These acts of kindness may be subtle, but they’re a good reminder that you love your SO just as much (and a million times more) than the first time you saw them.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a commercialized holiday full of red, pink, roses, and chocolate. Instead, make it your own by doing things that make your S.O feel loved in their own unique way. Even if your ideas are last-minute, they can still come from deep in your heart.
