Romance Books to Read This Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

Since we are in the month of love (cough, cough… Valentine’s Day), I thought it would be fun to share my favorite romance novels for those who don’t have a special date this year!

1. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

If you love friends to lovers, this one’s for you! This follows two best friends as they go on vacation with each other every year. However, one year something caused the friends to no longer talk. In hopes of repairing their friendship, they go on one last vacation together where everything is on the line and they must confront the past. This one made my cold, cynical heart believe in love!

2. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

Friends to lovers supremacy! Oh, and a second chance at love. This follows Macy and Elliot who bonded over their mutual love of books when they were little. Told in alternating timelines, we watch the two fall in love in the past and how they no longer speak to each other in the future. This is such a wonderful story, I read it in one day because it was so good!

3. One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Many of you have probably heard of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s more popular books like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six. However, this book is one of my favorites and not a lot of people talk about it. We follow Emma who marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. On their first anniversary, Jesse takes a helicopter over the ocean where he ends up crashing and is presumed dead. Years later, Emma learns how to move on when she reconnects with Sam, a boy who harbored feelings for her since they were young. They fall in love and get engaged. All’s well that ends well, right? Not exactly… Jesse ends up calling Emma and says he’s been alive this whole time and has been trying to come back to her. Get the tissues ready for this one because it is a tear-jerker.  Also, read this soon because it’s becoming a movie starring Phillipa Soo and Simu Liu!
