Valentine’s Day Candy, Ranked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

One of the best days of the year is coming up – Feb. 15th! With grocery stores rapidly clearing out their love-inspired candy, you can always expect to find great deals. However, the vast amount of choices can be overwhelming, which is why a tabulation of iconic sweets is in order. Does your favourite top the list?

7. Cinnamon hearts

While not a bad candy (can any candy be bad?), these tiny sweets pack a punch. They are so powerful, you can only have a couple in one sitting unless you enjoy a burning mouth.

6. Turtles chocolate (in the heart box)

Don’t get me wrong, Turtles are a great chocolate. However, there’s nothing special about these besides some different packaging. These will always be a Christmas treat in my heart.

5. Reese peanut butter cup hearts

Arguably similar to Reese’s classic peanut butter cups, these treats have a completely different mouth-feel. I don’t know why, but they just taste better with a heart shape.

4. Hershey’s Kisses

You just can’t beat the classics. From childhood memories of handing out Valentine’s cards to your classmates to the little paper NigglyWiggly attached, this confection always has a special place in my heart (and my stomach).

3. Strawberry cream Lindor chocolate

Lindor chocolate is always the boujee grocery store chocolate. It just can’t be compared to the generic Valentine’s chocolate found in the bulk section, and Lindor’s strawberry cream version is no different. If you love strawberries, these are a must-have this season.

2. Pillsbury sweetheart sugar cookies

Pillsbury never misses with their bakeable sugar cookies. Found a short distance away from the seasonal candy, you can usually find these bake-it-yourself treats in the freezer aisle.

1. Conversation hearts

Okay, I can already hear the backlash for placing these first. When looking for these sweets, nothing beats the OGs–sweethearts. Other companies just can’t nail the iconic melt-in-your-mouth texture of the originals, which I think completely ruins the experience. After a rocky few years due to a change in brand acquisition, Sweethearts are back and ready to treat your sweetheart this year!

These are only available for a few weeks out of the year, so you better stock up once that sale hits! As always, have a safe (condoms!) and happy Valentine’s Day!
