A Valentine’s Day Playlist to Slow Dance the Night Away

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

Valentine’s Day- either you love it, or hate it.

If you love it, you probably have a partner you can celebrate it with, but what do you get them? Will they want flowers, or should you get them chocolates instead? Maybe a necklace? What about that thing they’ve been wanting for a long time… or do they even want it anymore?

Shopping for Valentine’s Day can be tricky, especially if you’re on a budget. But you know what’s free? A mix-tape. Nothing truly says, “I love you,” like a playlist.

Here are fourteen songs that you can dance the night away to with your partner, making this V-Day evening one to remember.

1. Baby I’m Yours – Arctic Monkeys

This song makes me feel like I am so deeply in love that the world is more vibrant and life has a new meaning! It’s a perfect medium between a slow dance and a happy song to get you in the right mood for dancing with your love.

2. A Sunday Kind Of Love – Etta James

This is the perfect slow dance song- nothing screams romance more than an Etta James love melody!

3. Kiss Me – Sixpence None The Richer

This song literally makes me feel like I’ve snuck out of the house at midnight to meet with my high school sweetheart in a garden or something… the vibes are immaculate.

4. Magnolia – Laufey

If you want me to feel like I’m the prettiest girl in the world, just twirl me around to this song. So sweet and soft, slow dancing to this makes you feel like an angel.

5. Crimson & Clover – Tommy James & The Shondells

There’s something about teenage romance that makes people’s hearts squeeze- maybe it’s forbidden romance, or falling in love for the first time, but this song makes you feel like you’re slow dancing with your crush at prom all over again.

6. Can’t Take My Eyes off You – Frankie Valli

Have a little bit of energy you need to get out? Don’t worry, this slow-burn will let you yell out the chorus with your partner and burst out all your sweet moves.

7. Loving Is Easy – Rex Orange County

It’s upbeat like our last song but brings the tone back down just a bit. Let’s just vibe!

8. Stars Fell On Alabama – Billie Holiday

Alright, now we’re back to our classic slow dance jams. Oldies never fail to make me feel like romance is in the air.

9. My Cherie Amour – Stevie Wonder

Literally my favorite love song of all time… I can’t get enough of it!

10. Michelle – The Beatles

A little funky love song, perfect for a little dance.

11. Nothing – Bruno Major

Nothing breaks my heart quite like this song. If you want to be sobbing into your partner’s arms by the end of the night, this is definitely the song you’ll want to play.

12. Sweetest Thing on This Side of Heaven – Papa Bear & His Cubs

More like the sweetest R&B slow-jam you’ll find on Spotify.

13. Put Your Head on My Shoulder – Paul Anka

This song makes you feel like you’ve time-traveled back to the ’50s in the best way possible. Filled with so much passion, it’s perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day post-dinner dance.

14. At Last – Etta James

And to end the playlist, I have no choice but to end it with the greatest slow dance song of all time to conclude your romantic evening.

I hope this playlist helped create a sweet gift for your partner on the 14th and helped set the mood for a lovely evening this Valentine’s Day.
