It’s that time of year again when you go home and cozy up on the couch and let the TV play whatever is on. What is normally playing, you may ask? Cheesy holiday movies. I’ll be honest and say that I only started to appreciate these cheesy storylines this past year. Hallmark movies are always playing on the TV in my household, and at first, I used to hate how predictable these love stories are, but I’ve learned to love them. And honestly, the holiday season isn’t the same without them. I decided to make a list of cheesy movies to watch over the holidays.

This is the most recent one that I have watched on Netflix. To be fair, Netflix has been putting out some more cheesy movies lately. This movie is about an extremely popular writer who has just published her last book and is receiving hate from her audience due to the ending. Therefore, she decides to take a trip to Scotland to get away from the public and find a new space to write her next book. There is a beautiful castle involved that comes with the Duke as well. If you’re bored and don’t know what to watch, try this one.

This is personally one of my favourite holiday movies that I have watched. The storyline involves a competitive figure skater who injures herself before competition season. Unable to compete, she is sent to a rehabilitation center in hopes of healing her leg faster. During this time away from the city and surrounded by a small town, she learns to appreciate the finer things in life. Of course, there is the cheesy romance of ‘we’re not friends to lovers,’ but the movie serves its purpose of romanticizing our lives a little bit. For myself, it is one of the more memorable movies that I have watched during the holiday season.

A single mother is hoping for a good Christmas to come her way, and when she finds a lost family heirloom, her wishes begin to come true. Soon she finds good fortune and love during her holidays. I personally really enjoyed this movie since it steers more away from the more basic storylines, and it is one with a bit more of a mystery element to it as well. A good option if you’re looking to stay away from more of the predictable movies.

The main character works at the bakery and meets the newcomer to town. While she is intrigued by the new single parent, she is also talking to a mysterious man that she met online. This movie gave me You’ve Got Mail vibes. It is heavily predictable, but honestly, it’s a good movie to watch if you’ve enjoyed a bit more of a cheesy knockoff with a great romance to go along with it.

I mean, do I have to explain this one? It’s all in the title. A Royal Christmas! The absolute masterpiece of all girls dreams to find out that she is dating someone who is an heir to the royal throne. This Hallmark movie hit it spot on when appealing to lots of people’s dreams in terms of getting to become royalty and experiencing a wonderful romance to go along with it as well.
Cheesy holiday movies don’t get enough credit. Sure, they may be predictable and overdramatic in terms of unrealistic romances, yet they are somehow one of the things I look forward to most during winter because these movies are comforting. I hope this list gives some ideas on new movies to watch, and when in doubt, just leave the hallmark channel on!
