From Netflix Originals to Christmas classics, Netflix has you covered this year. Here are just some of the best Christmas films on Netflix this festive season:
- THe Christmas Chronicles (2018)

This film follows the story of a brother and sister, Kate and Teddy Pierce (Darby Camp and Judah Lewis), who try to catch Santa in the act on Christmas Eve but instead end up on a journey to inspire festive spirit and save Christmas. Be sure to also check out the sequel: The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020) in which a now-older Kate and Teddy Pierce are once again tasked to save Christmas when the actions of an ex-elf threaten to cancel the holiday forever.
- THe Holiday (2006)

A Christmas classic. Set in the holidays, this film tells the story of two drastically-different women who are both unlucky in love – Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet). Following recent drama in their respective love lives, the women decide to swap lives for the holidays in the hopes that this will alleviate their problems. Instead, they are met with new locations, new friendships, and new love interests.
- Love Actually (2003)

Another Christmas classic, Love Actually follows several different couples at Christmas time as they navigate love, lust, and heartbreak. These relationships include that of the new Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) and his young employee (Martine McCutcheon), a young boy (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and his crush (Olivia Olson), and even an office affair. This is definitely a must-see.

The Knight Before Christmas is a Netflix Original film that tells the story of a Medieval Knight, Sir Cole (Josh Whitehouse) who is magically transported to modern-day American to fulfil his mysterious quest. On his journey, he meets a high school teacher (Vanessa Hudgens) who helps him try to understand and navigate both his quest and the modern world.
- Operation Christmas Drop (2020)

This Netflix Original tells the story of a political aide (Kat Graham) who visits a tropical Air Force base with the intention to shut it down and then discovers the base’s rather unusual Christmas tradition.
- Santa Girl (2019)

Santa Girl follows the story of Santa’s daughter (Jennifer Stone) who goes to college with the aid of one of Santa’s helpers (Lydia Meredith). She must grapple with new love interests and the problem of continuing the family business, as well as contemplating whether to go through with the marriage arranged for her by her father.

Another classic Christmas film, Nativity follows a teacher (Martin Freeman) who is tasked with auditioning and directing the school’s nativity play. He lands himself in hot water after he boasts about the production being turned into a film by his ex-girlfriend.
- Office Christmas Party (2016)

The main character (T.J. Miller) owns a branch of the company his sister (Jennifer Aniston) is CEO of. He tries to stop her from shutting down his division by throwing a lavish holiday party in his dad’s legacy to entice a big client and impress her.
- A Castle For Christmas (2021)

New to Netflix for this holiday season is A Castle for Christmas. This film follows an American author (Brooke Shields) who escapes to Scotland in the footsteps of her father’s legacy, falls in love with a castle, and battles with the owner of it – a rich Duke (Cary Elwes).
- SIngle All the way (2021)

Another new addition to Netflix this year is Single All The Way, which tells the story of Peter (Michael Urie), who goes home to visit his family for Christmas. He brings his best friend, posing as his boyfriend, with him, in the hopes of stopping his family’s unwelcome involvement in and obsession with his love life. But this takes a turn when his family sets him up on a blind date.
- The Princess Switch (2018)

This is the first film in the The Princess Switch trilogy, and it follows a Chicago baker (Vanessa Hudgens) who enters a baking competition with her friend and look-alike, the Duchess of Montenaro – who is set to marry the prince. They decide to trade places.
After you watch this film, I’m certain you’ll want to watch The Princess Switch: Switched Again (2020) and The Princess Switch: Romancing the Star (2021).
- A Christmas Prince (2017)

Another Netflix trilogy, A Christmas Prince tells the story of a journalist (Rose McIver) who is sent to cover the story of a young prince (Ben Lamb) set to be King. She is then mistaken as the princess’ American tutor and plays along to get insider information about the Royal Family of Aldovia. However, her original intentions are tested as she begins to spend more time with the family.
Also be sure to watch A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (2018) and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby (2019).
- The Holiday Calendar (2018)

Last but not least on this list is The Holiday Calendar. In this film, a young photographer (Kat Graham) is given an antique advent calendar which appears to predict her future.
An honourable mention that did not quite make this list is The Holidate (2020). While this isn’t a Christmas film per se, it tells the story of two strangers (Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey), both fed up with being single, who agree to be each other’s “holidates” for all holidays and celebrations, from New Years’ Eve right the way through to Christmas.
