Christmas time is here, which means it is time for the holiday spirit. The last month of the year is the best time to get into a festive state of mind. The holiday season has a way of just making everything seem so cozy and happy. Christmas decor on the streets and decorating the tree with your family sets the tone for the season. The weather gets a little colder and gloomier, which adds to the winter feel. The cold weather gives me the urge to curl up on the couch with a fluffy blanket and watch holiday movies all day. Here are just a few Christmas movies that are a must-watch every year.
Charlie Brown Christmas
There is nothing more nostalgic to watch than Charlie Brown. In this animated classic, Charlie Brown is trying to figure out the true meaning of Christmas with the usual shenanigans of Snoopy and the gang. It also seems to tackle the theme of isolation where people can relate to it as watchers. As Charlie Brown tries to connect with everyone else, he takes in the iconic little tree to give it some love and care. Once everyone pitches in, it turns beautiful and rallies everyone together on Christmas. If you don’t watch this Christmas classic, then did you even have Christmas?
Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Ron Howard’s take of the classic film includes Jim Carey as the Grinch. In this live-action film, he embodies the Grinch perfectly. He terrorizes the cheery people of Who-ville who love Christmas, until he reluctantly and unknowingly befriends Cindy-Lou, making him question why he despises the holiday that usually brings people together. This movie is a must-watch every year with my siblings and me. I have been watching it every year since I was a child.
THE FAmily Stone
This movie is one of my all-time favorites and I always have to watch it with my mom. It centers around a family and their differences while trying to connect with Meredith, the girlfriend of the eldest son Everett. She goes to their annual Christmas celebrations and it is not going well. In desperation, she calls her sister to help win the approval of Everett’s family only adding more chaos. This movie never fails to make me laugh and cry every year.
Jack Frost
Michael Keaton stars as Jack Frost the musician struggling to balance shows and spending time with his family. After a tragic accident, he turns into a snowman after his son plays a magic harmonica while missing his dad. Given a second chance, Jack is able to spend time with his son and make up for lost time.
There are so many more holiday movies to watch besides these, which are my personal favorites. Regardless of the Christmas movie, no matter how cliche they could be, it always manages to bring out the holiday spirit. Sometimes it also just is a great way to pass the time with friends or family as you decorate the tree.
