Season 3 of “YOU” – Netflix’s TV show review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

As someone who enjoys true crime, watching “YOU” has always been something I look forward to. Although some of the episodes are rather cheesy and sometimes predictable, I can always count on being surprised every season.

I have been watching the TV show since it came out, and as someone who used to watch Gossip Girl, I really enjoyed Penn Badgley’s character, Joe. It’s definitely a contrast, but he plays a very good stalker!

Spoiler alert, but on season 3, Joe continuously can not stop killing people! Seriously! Lover after lover, true love after true love, no one seems to satisfy Joe’s “ideal soulmate” who loves him for him. However, after the murder of Guinevere Beck, I really thought Love Quinn was the one for Joe, yet both women didn’t fit the criteria and ended up being murdered. Guinevere was the opposite of Joe while Love was exactly like him. In season 3, Love and Joe move into a small suburban town while they try to assimilate into society. Both of them can’t seem to fit in, probably because they kill people and have anger problems, but they end up killing together.

However, if you remember the end of season 2, it makes sense why the two don’t match up. In the final episode, Joe decides to kill Love, but the only thing that stopped him was her announcement of her pregnancy. Naturally, the two decide to pretend like nothing happened while expecting to live happily together while raising their newborn son, Henry.

This obviously doesn’t go well, and Love, who turns out to be equally murderous and jealous, quickly picks off their neighbors which leaves Joe to clean up the mess. Love kills their neighbor who she suspects Joe is sleeping with, and days later, kills a man that gave Henry measles. At the end of the season, during a sex orgy that goes terribly wrong, Love and Joe kidnap their friends and Love accidently captures Theo, her lover and the boy-next-door. While Love was consumed with her new affair, Joe was equally planning on leaving and killing Love for Marienne, his librarian boss. However, as Joe executes his plan, Love catches on and ensnares him into hers. She tries to kill him, but Joe kills her instead while burning up their house, faking his death and running away to France to find Marienne.

Season 3 of “YOU” definitely didn’t disappoint and I’m very excited to watch season 4. Admittedly, I found myself rooting for the serial killers, Joe and Love, but in the end, it was a fast show with lots of twists and turns. If you’re into true crime with a bit of fiction, I would definitely recommend watching this season!
