Moving to NYC has been such a fun experience for me, and when I have time, I like to explore as much of the city as I can. Even though I am new to the city, I have found things that I like to do that I can recommend to others. Some of my recommendations may seem touristy, but aren’t the touristy things the most fun? New York City has a little bit of everything for everyone’s taste, but here are some of my top picks:
Hudson River Park
I found Hudson River Park one day when I was visiting the High Line, which is another picturesque area in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. You are greeted with the best views of Jersey and the World Trade Center. Look around, and you will see people riding bikes and enjoying the NYC air. The park itself is situated above the water on a manufactured pier, which is a sight itself.
Johns of Bleecker Street
Looking for the perfect slice of NYC pizza? Johns of Bleecker Street is a small pizza joint established in 1929 by Italian immigrants. The restaurant makes excellent brick-oven pies with the best crispy thin crusts. The inside of John’s is filled with authentic pictures which really give a quaint, family feel. The service is great, and the pizza is even better!
Washington Square Park
I love parks and Washington Square Park is a cultural hub that never sleeps! Go there any day or time, and there is always something to do. The park, located in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village and on NYU’s campus, is my favorite place to people-watch and feel like a real New Yorker. It is an excellent place to relax, read a book, and listen to the best jazz music! On weekends, you can find flea markets where vendors sell vintage clothes, hand-crafted jewelry, crystals, and so much more!
Staten Island Ferry
If you are in search of the perfect skyline picture, then head down to the Whitehall Terminal in Lower Manhattan and catch a ride on the big orange ferry! This free service is about a 25 minute voyage each way, and is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view!
Bushwick Collective
If you are a fan of street art, head down to Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood to see an array of cultural art that is sure to catch your eye. The collective was created in 2012 and highlights art from local artists. Art lines walls for blocks, and there is always something to see. The art has so much meaning, so I recommend stopping by to support local Brooklyn artists.
