10 Songs That Make Me Feel Like A Hippy Girl Boss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

My music taste is all over the place. One second I’m jamming to Dolly Parton and the next second I’m rapping along with Eminem. So, although I listen to many different genres, here are 10 songs which make me feel like I’m a 10 foot tall, Amazonian goddess capable of anything. Read ahead to discover some new songs which might also make you feel like the main character in a coming of age drama.

The Spins – Mac Miller

The first song on my Hippy Girl Boss Playlist is a classic by Mac Miller. Within the first 10 seconds of this bop my mood instantly changes, and I can’t help but wiggle like in the dancing baby meme. This song is the perfect mix of upbeat instrumentals, Mac Miller’s voice, and heartwarming lyrics. If you ever see me skipping on campus, I’m probably jamming to this song.

Supercut – Lorde

Lorde will always have a special spot in my heart, but her album “Melodrama” leaves me speechless everytime I listen to it. “Supercut” is a stunning song which makes me nostalgic of all the good times I’ve had with friends and family. I want to cry happy tears when she sings “in your car the radio up” and the beat starts to speed up. Thank you Lorde for consistently making me feel warm inside and smile like a lunatic while listening to your music.

You Sexy Thing – Hot Chocolate

Even though I originally discovered this song as a kid when watching the movie “Grown Ups”, “You Sexy Thing” by Hot Chocolate has become one of my top played songs ever. Everytime I listen to this upbeat classic I can’t help but dance and hold my head a little higher. If you’re looking for a confidence or mood boost, “You Sexy Thing” will come in clutch every time.

Counting Cards – Rainbow Kitten Surprise

Pretty much every song by Rainbow Kitten Surprise brings me to tears, but “Counting Cards” is one of my favorites. I am flooded with serotonin everytime I hear the beginning of this song featuring it’s organic guitar riff which plays in my head all day. Not to mention lead vocalist Sam Melo has an alternative gruff voice that sends shivers down my spine. I highly recommend binge listening to Rainbow Kitten Surprise because they single handedly changed my taste in music.

World Wings – Yoke Lore

Yoke Lore is another band which consistently produces 10/10 songs, but “World Wings” especially makes my auditory cortex quiver. The anticipatory beat and complex sounds in this beautiful song makes me wanna hold my head out of a car window with a huge grin like a golden retriever and scream at the top of my lungs. When listening to this song, no one can stop me from being the best version of myself. If “World Wings” isn’t on your playlist after reading this article I don’t know what to say.

Waste – Foster the People

This song has a very unique beat that reminds me of a robot disco. Bonus points because the lyrics are super adorable and make me wanna fall in love. The chorus is catchy and never fails to produce butterflies in my stomach. Overall, “Waste” by Foster the People is a song people of all music tastes will fall in love with.

Blow – Carersorr

One of the less popular songs on my list, I discovered “Blow” by Carersorry on a good vibes Spotify playlist. Similar to some of the other songs on this list, “Blow” has a space-like beat which stands out compared to mainstream pop. If you are a fan of Tones and I, I definitely recommend listening to this bop.

Fast in My Car – Paramore

More on the rock side of the music spectrum, “Fast in My Car” by Paramore gives off major girl-boss vibes. Everytime this song plays, I feel unstoppable and tough. With it’s fast beat, intense guitar riff, and Paramore’s loud voice, this song will remain on my playlist for years to come. Paramore is the female icon we all need in our lives, and her music definitely helps boost my mood.

We All Die Trying To Get It Right – Vance Joy

Although sadder and slower than the rest of the songs on this list, “We All Die Trying To Get It Right” is one of those songs that will always have a special place in my heart. When listening to it, I feel like I’m on a roadtrip in the Pacific Northwest and staring out the window dramatically. Vance Joy definitely knows how to get me in my feels and this song without a doubt makes me feel like crying happy tears.

Your Love (Déjà Vu) – Glass Animals

While I love the Tik-Tok famous song “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals has so many hits which remain hidden from mainstream media. “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” is one of their songs which consistently blows my mind because of its eccentric beat and catchy tune. If you’re a fan of alternative music I definitely recommend listening to Glass Animals, especially “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” because it never fails to pump me up for the day.

Whether you’re looking for a new favorite song, or just need a more mood-boosting playlist, I can guarantee you will find what you’re looking for with this list of songs because they are all amazing.
