What to watch this November? The weather is getting chillier and without doubt our desire to stay indoors even stronger, but thankfully we have Netflix and luckily a wide range of different TV-series to keep us entertained. For this month, we’ve picked thrilling shows that are bound to keep you on the edge of your seat (or bed), and this time our little list is more international. Here are our four November picks.
Squid Game (Korean)
Have you already seen the currently most watched series on Netflix? If not, you’re definitely in for a gripping and horrifying surprise. Desperate and penniless people are approached with an intriguing opportunity to win an insane amount of money and the premise seems quite simple: in order to win, the participants have to get through children’s games. However, these games are dangerously built to brutally set the contestants against each other so that they would achieve the last places by any means possible. It all becomes a violent play, raising ethical questions as well as wonder at the very old man who is also participating. How on earth did he end up in the game?
La casa de papel (Money Heist) (Spanish)
Already a modern classic, now is a good time to start watching this epic heist series that will officially end this December as Netflix will drop the rest of the episodes of season 5. It all begins with a mysterious man known as “The Professor” who recruits eight people to enter the The Royal Mint of Spain, also known as the house of money, a facility that prints euros, and to escape with their own share. The team go by city names as their aliases and one of them, Tokyo, narrates the whole story although also revealing herself as an unreliable narrator. Their endeavor lasts days and as the Professor manipulates the police forces, the team experiences growing distrust and frustration inside the house of money.
Lupin (French)
Lupin became an instant hit and no wonder. Omar Sy amazingly plays a character that is brilliantly resourceful and clever and carries out his plans by always being two steps ahead. Inspired by the adventures of the master thief Arsène Lupin, the series follows Assane Diop, the son of a Senegalese immigrant who wanted a better life for his son but becomes framed for a theft of an expensive diamond necklace by his wealthy and powerful employer. Assane’s father soon dies in prison, leaving him an orphan. He gave Assane something that would have a significantly effect on him, a book about gentleman thief Arsène Lupin which inspires him to set out to get revenge on the man who framed his father. Assane, however, carries out his plans with incredible charisma and mastery of thievery and disguise.
Clickbait (American)
This series has been one of the most thrilling releases in Netflix as it delves deeper into a case that begins with a viral video of a visibly beaten man. The man, Nick Brewer, is seen in the beginning to hold a card that says “I abuse women,” then another that says “At 5 million views I die.” Nick has gone missing, and his family tries to find him by getting involved in the investigation which, as it develops, reveals intimate details about Nick’s marriage and his relationships with other women. Nick’s whole dating history on social media becomes exposed and he gains the image of a deceitful and abusive liar. As the story progresses, however, many inconsistencies are revealed as others recollect Nick’s actions. Did Nick, then, become a victim of the dangerous virtual world of social media which has manipulated the investigators, the audience, and his family?
