Preparing for Red (Taylor’s Version)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

Swifties have been waiting anxiously for Taylor Swift’s re-recorded albums since her announcement in 2019.

After Fearless (Taylor’s Version) dropped, many people had questions as to why she was re-recording her first six studio albums; let’s do a brief summary!

Taylor’s first six studio albums belonged to Big Machine Records. However, these albums were sold to Scooter Braun in 2019, barring Swift from sole ownership of her masters. She came out not long after saying that this transaction was done without her consent or approval, and was devastated by the whole thing, but we’ve always known Taylor to be five steps ahead of everyone in the game! We now are receiving six re-recorded albums, all featuring unreleased ‘From The Vault’ tracks

There was a very mixed response on social media when Taylor began speaking out about this sequence of events. However, she sought to reach a target audience of women who would understand the significance of the situation. It is nothing new to the world that a female artist’s work may be stolen and made to profit a group of already wealthy men. However, we also understand that it’s not the money that drives her. The mind, soul, and work Taylor Swift put into her discography for the last 15+ years are what make her one of a kind. Not to mention the fact that she is dropping with talent both lyrically and vocally. Undermining her sole ownership as an artist is just one-way sexism in the music industry has manifested itself and targeted her.

November 12, 2021, is the current release date for Red (Taylor’s Version). A lot of us grew up listening to Taylor Swift, and Red was one of the best pop albums our generation got to experience. The album itself has been described to enrapture the passion of a relationship as well as the chaos of its ending. At this point in our lives, we’ve all experienced such feelings. An album with some of Taylor’s most successful songs on it should be greeted with the utmost excitement. She’s blessing us with eight new songs on it as well. On November 12th I encourage everyone to embrace the new season of fall by streaming Red (Taylor’s Version)!
