Knock your socks off: How to enjoy halloween without the festivities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Augustana chapter.

Halloween is a time when all students in college tend to dress up and go out to parties. They enjoy some time with their friends and family, while also having the fun to dress up and pretend to be someone else for a night.

I, however, do not have the same luxuries as some of the students around the world. I take many different medications for multiple reasons, so going out and partaking in activities with alcohol are always a challenge for me, seeing as it counteraffects my medications. Instead, I have found other ways to enjoy myself on Halloween with my friends and family.

Carve Pumpkins: This is a great way to enjoy Halloween while also spending time with the people you want to associate with. I do this every year and make a competition out of it. I love to buy many different pumpkin sizes and either paint them or carve them with my boyfriend and friends. We all vote on them and celebrate with a nice Halloween surprise every year.

Dress Up: While I might not be drinking, I still have the added benefit of dressing up each year. This is yet another fun thing that you can do on Halloween. I have dressed up every year, either as a witch, or a pumpkin, and even Beetlejuice this year. I always find something to dress up as and enjoy the day.

Haunted Houses/Movies: This is a great way to get your spooky season on fire throughout the whole month. I suggest things like Hocus Pocus or The Conjuring series, as those are scary as well as humorous to watch for your viewing pleasure. Also, haunted houses will give everyone a fright, as well as the added opportunity to dress up.

Overall, there are many different ways to enjoy Halloween if the party scene just isn’t for you or if you can’t participate in them. These are just a few. Either way, enjoy Halloween and get your fright on!

Hi! I’m Christina. I am a senior at Augie :). I joined hercampus here because I want to help promote such a fantastic organization, as well as talk about/photograph important events that should be talked about in the news. I want to bring attention to topics, as well as have the conversations that need to happen. Plus, I love women supporting women!
