4 Ways to Celebrate Halloween If Partying Isn’t Your Thing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Halloween is right around the corner. In fact, it’s only a few days away. Yet, with the holiday looming over your shoulder, you may be faced with the fact that you have no plans. If parties just aren’t your thing and you’re stuck with the anxiety of figuring out Halloween plans, don’t fret! I’ve got you covered. Here are four alternatives for your Halloweekend that exclude the partying.

go to a Haunted Attraction

One of the best ways to celebrate Halloween is by doing something spooky. My favorite way to be spooked is by attending haunted attractions. Here in Pittsburgh, there are a variety to choose from. Whether it’s an amusement park like local Kennywood, an all-indoor haunt like ScareHouse that will keep you away from the cold, or an outside attraction like Hundred Acres Manor, there are so many haunted attractions at your fingertips. So, get a group of friends together, or even venture in by yourself if you dare, and spend Halloweekend screaming and running from the terrors that lurk beyond!

Go see a horror movie in THEATERS

Horror movies are another great addition to the Halloween season. Right now is the prime time to go see a horror movie, especially in theaters, since they are beginning to reopen.  Spend your weekend watching another installment of the horror classic Halloween. The latest installment of the series, Halloween Kills is in theaters right now, and you can even go see it at the AMC theatre at The Waterfront, which is only a short drive away from campus. Grab some buttery popcorn, have a slushie and lay back to watch a horror movie on the big screen. I promise the film will not disappoint, especially when it comes to the scare factor!

Have a movie Marathon at home

Sometimes the best way to celebrate a holiday is from the comfort of your own home. The perfect way to celebrate Halloween from your dorm room is with a spooky marathon. Whether it be watching the complete series of The Conjuring, a marathon of your cult-classic Halloween films like Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown, or even just watching a spooky web series like Buzzfeed Unsolved, there are so many different ways to have some Halloween fun! Get dressed in your comfiest pajamas, gather your favorite snacks and enjoy being snuggled up watching different kinds of spookiness unfold!

Get Dressed Up & Have A Photoshoot

Let’s be honest, we all know the real reason people get dressed up on Halloween: their Instagram feed. Just because you don’t have any desire to go out, doesn’t mean you can’t still get dressed up. Pick out your costume for the night, plan out your poses and take those pictures! In fact, the photoshoot doesn’t have to be a one-person job. Grab some of your friends, choose a group costume and your night can be full of group photos! Your Instagram feed will thank me later!

Halloween doesn’t have to be all about partying, nor do you have to feel obligated to party. Celebrate Halloween the way you want to celebrate it. If these ideas don’t spark any interest, there are a bunch more to choose from. No matter what you end up doing, just remember to stay safe! Happy Halloween!
