If you haven’t tuned in to Selena Gomez’s new mystery-comedy series on Hulu, Only Murders in the Building, what are you doing? The season one finale airs this Tuesday and it has it all — humor, suspense, and action — all tied up and presented with beautiful direction!
The plot
The show follows three main characters. The first, Mabel Mora, (I am SO HERE for Gomez’s return to my television screen <3), is a 28-year-old lone wolf who is currently living in and redecorating her aunt's Upper West Side apartment. Second, we have Oliver Putnam, (Martin Short aka Jack Frost from the Santa Clauses!), a former Broadway director with big aspirations. Lastly, we have my personal favorite, Charles Haden Savage (Steve Martin aka THE PINK PANTHER!), former television star. The three are an untraditional trio (to say the least), but watching their dynamic is SO addictive.
After a murder occurs in the apartment building that they all live in, the trio develops a podcast to document their own investigation of the murder, becoming besties along the way.
Of course, as interesting as true crime can be, it is important to remember, as Charles Haden-Savage put it: “Every true crime story is actually true for someone.” If you’re a big true-crime fan, remember to be sensitive to that fact.
