The weather is changing and it’s finally getting colder outside, which means only one thing… cozy nights with a good book! Deciding on a book can be difficult, especially when there are so many great new books being released! So, here are five must-read book recommendations for fall 2021!

  1. The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Fall means back-to-school for most of us, so what better way to kick off the fall season than to read a school-themed romance? Ali Hazelwood’s first book, The Love Hypothesis, follows Olive Smith, a third-year Ph.D. candidate who does not believe in relationships that last, testing this by using a “fake boyfriend” –– her hotshot professor, Adam Carslen.

The typical lab tyrant surprises Olive when he agrees to go along with the charade. All is fine in Olive’s world until her career is threatened to blow up after a major science conference and Adam takes his job as Olive’s fake boyfriend a tad too seriously. The relationship between the Ph.D. student and young professor becomes a little less fake and a little more real.

2. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

If you’ve been wanting to get into the classics, then this is your chance! The fall season wouldn’t be fall without Halloween –– Halloween most certainly wouldn’t be Halloween without Frankenstein!

The 1818 novel written by Mary Shelley tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a sapient creature in a science experiment. Victor successfully gives life to a creation that he created himself but said creation turns out to not be what Frankenstein wanted. The creature that the young scientist develops turns out to be a hideous creature who is rejected by society, and even Victor rejects him. The hideous creature seeks its revenge through murder and terror and goes on a horror spree.

Need another reason why you need to read Frankenstein this fall? Mary Shelley began writing Frankenstein when she was only 18 and published the book anonymously when she was only 20 years old! Pretty incredible!

3. Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

If you have ever been on BookTok, you know about Taylor Jenkins Reid and her incredible books! Taylor Jenkins Reid’s sixth book, Daisy Jones and the Six is told in a documentary-style filled with personal interviews with Daisy and all of the band members within the Six.

The novel tells the story of Daisy Jones, a young and upcoming singer, navigating the world of the 1960s and 70s rock-and-roll scene. She falls into the trap of sneaking into clubs, sleeping with rockstars, exploring the sex and drugs that captivated the era. The novel provides insight into why the most famous rock and roll band split up during the peak of their career while also telling the individual stories of the members.

The iconic novel will be turned into Amazon Prime Video miniseries set to air in 2022. The cast began filming in late September, so what better way to kick off filming and to get ourselves ready to watch Daisy Jones and the Six take the stage than to read the book?

4. November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover has been blowing up our BookTok “For You” pages for months now! Her captivating novels have become must-read books this year. Her 2015 novel, November 9, has become a popular read this fall.

November 9 follows the story of Fallon and Ben. Fallon is planning a cross-country move, leaving behind LA to start anew. On her last day in LA, Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist. The two spend the day together and that one fateful day becomes the creative inspiration Ben was desperately looking for his newest novel. The book tells the story of how the two meet on the same date, November 9, every year despite whatever is going on in their lives. All is fine between Ben and Fallon until Fallon becomes unsure if Ben is being truthful or if this is all a ruse for his novel.

What better way to spend November 9 than by reading November 9?

5. They Wish They Were Us by Jessica Goodman

Jessica Goodman’s murder mystery is the perfect back-to-school read for the fall time! They Wish They Were Us is set in Gold Coast, Long Island in an exclusive prep school. Life is good for Jill Newman and her friends until Shaila Arnold, Jill’s best friend, is killed by her boyfriend in their freshman year. The case went to trial, Graham confessed, and the case was closed. Time for Jill to move on… right?

It all starts falling apart in Jill’s senior year when she begins getting texts that prove Graham’s innocence. Jill thought she would be able to enjoy her senior year of high school without having to deal with the death of her best friend all over again, but not anymore. Jill decides to not stay silent about these mystery texts and tries to figure out who killed her best friend and risks everything in the meantime.

What screams fall time more than a private boarding school on Long Island?
