As a music major, I keep on constantly being told that I need to expand my range of music that I listen to. This is really hard for me because I like to stick to the same genres and artists that I love because to me, they are classics. I can’t stop creating playlists either, but most of them have the same songs. This month I set a goal to become more diverse in who I am listening to by trying out new artists, albums and genres. Here’s what I have had on repeat so far.

1. “Motion sickness” by Phoebe Bridgers

I constantly heard from my best friend that Phoebe Bridgers is so good, but I never gave her a listen. This month, I decided to give her a try and I am so glad I did. I relate to all of the lyrics in this song and I love the vibe. She gives calm relaxed vibes that I absolutely am in love with right now.

2. “Girls” by girl in red

This is an old classic that I have listened to for a while now, but I love to recycle it and listen to it every October. Even Girl in Red references October and fall. It is just the perfect sunny fall day with colorful leaves falling down song.

3. “mood ring” by lorde

I have loved Lorde for years and had been anticipating her dropping a new song or album. When she did, I was more than excited and it is such a good album. “Mood Ring” is just such a good song and you should listen to her album Solar Power in general.

4. “joanie” by clairo

This song is so unique to Clairo, it is mostly instrumental and it barely has any lyrics. It is so refreshing for her and I am so excited to go to her concert in a few months!

5. “Sparks fly” by taylor swift

I have been going through Taylor’s songs recently and I rediscovered Sparks Fly”, and have fallen in love with it. I didn’t remember this song of hers, I remembered the classic “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me”, but I am so glad I took the jump and listened to it. I am not the biggest fan of country music, but this song hits home and I love it!

6. “Library magic” by the head and the heart

This song is perfect for describing how the library feels when you are reading a book and the leaves are falling off the trees. Cuddling up with a book is the exact mood I want for the month of October.

7. “have we met before?” by tom rosenthal

I have been listening to Tom for years, actually for about 7 years. His album Z-Sides is perfect for the fall time. It is so calm and peaceful and it is perfect for a rainy day. Specifically, “Have We Met Before?” is just so cozy and the song features Fenne Lily as well.

8. “my girlfriend is a witch” by october country

This song just makes me feel witchy and badass! I love it for the fall when you want to dance in your room!

9. “steal my girl” by one direction

This song is also a good dance-in-your-room-jumping-around song. I love One Direction and I have be cycling through their songs and I have rekindled my love for this one!

10. “bubble toes” by jack johnson

As a kid, I would listen to my Curious George CD by Jack Johnson on repeat. Although this song was not on that album, it still makes me feel nostalgia and happiness!
