Quirky Places to Cry on Campus

It’s only week two. I know. However, the girlypops at Her Campus UCSC wanted to prepare you for the inevitable reality that, yes, midterms are in fact coming up, and yes, that means that the time to cry is truly upon us. If you’re new to campus, wonderful! I’m happy to let you know that you go to a school with what seems like a million perfect places to cry. If you’re not new, also wonderful! I hope you recognize some of these places!

The Benches Behind the Student Union

There are only pros about this location. Somewhere to sit? Check. Close to Classroom Units? Check. Has a view? Check. If there were to be a con for this crying spot, it’d be how busy the area gets. And I’m not sure about you, but I’m not very fond of crying in public…

All of Science Hill

Okay, hear me out. Science Hill is the only place on campus where you can cry openly and not get judged. Those who study and attend classes at Science Hill understand. The quarter is tough, and sometimes it needs to be let out. At Her Campus UCSC, we really enjoyed the greenhouse on top of Thimann Labs, the basement of the Science and Engineering Library, and the benches by the Natural Sciences 2 Annex.

The Bench in Front of the Music Center

I will admit, there is a trend here. The benches on campus are unmatched for crying. However, this bench has the added benefit of being pretty secluded. AND, there’s a view of the ocean! There are always students practicing music, so even if you don’t have your headphones, there will be a soundtrack to cry to. :)

Chadwick Garden

Chadwick Garden, located in Merrill College, is worth the walk up the hill. Why? There’s a cat. If I need more to convince you to cry there, I’m not sure we can be friends. Buster the cat is always looking for new friends to pet him, and what better way to be comforted while crying than with a cat?

The Woods TBH

Take a walk into the woods. Don’t go too far so you won’t get lost. The woods simply have an ~energy~ to them that is irresistible and truly calming when you need it to be.
