Listening to music while studying and completing class assignments helps me to relax and get in the zone. For each subject and different assignments, I listen to various genres of music, from instrumental to rap. Here’s a list of five of my favorite Spotify playlists (some curated by me, others by Spotify) for when I’m studying.

My “Soundtracks” Playlist

When I really need to focus, like when I’m studying for an exam or reading class material, I can’t listen to songs with words. Some of the best instrumental music is found in films and television shows. Over the years, I have compiled a list of my favorite background music from several films and TV shows, and now it provides nice background music for when I need to get in the zone and focus more intently. If you want to check it out, here’s a link to my playlist!

“Lo-Fi Beats”

Another instrumental kind of playlist for when words will just get in the way of your concentration is “Lo-Fi Beats.” I find lo-fi music to be relaxing and it helps me focus. The beats are fun and help me find a rhythm in my work. There are also so many versions of lo-fi music from French lo-fi to hip-hop lo-fi, so you can easily gear it to your own music preferences. Here’s a fun lo-fi playlist I sometimes listen to.

Your Favorite Coffeehouse

One of my favorite study spots is a coffee shop, especially when I’m writing papers and articles. The ambiance, the random people that walk in and out, and of course the lovely music they play makes for a calm and cozy studying environment. This Spotify playlist will let you feel like you’re back at a coffee shop again (even from your own bedroom). Pour yourself a cup of coffee, sit back, jam, and write that paper!

“The Most Beautiful Songs In The World”

I found this playlist over the summer, and it’s now one of my favorites. The songs on here are absolutely beautiful. The playlist is a collection of soft and vibey tunes that’ll put you in a happy and peaceful state of mind, even when you’re struggling with that unsolvable math problem. The melodic and soothing songs will ease your study worries.

“Today’s Top Hits”

This pop playlist on Spotify is perfect for those studying moments when you just want to jam out and get all that busy work done. Not a playlist I tend to use when I need to really focus and think, but I do like to listen to it, or any of my current favorite songs, when I need a boost of energy after a long day. I can just sing along to it and power through my assignments.

I hope you give these playlists a try and happy studying! Be sure to also check out the UMass Amherst Her Campus Spotify for all sorts of fun playlists for every mood.
