Hi readers! This year’s Emmy Awards mark the second year of the event with COVID guidelines. Though attendance was minimal, there were a few attendees who stunned on the carpet.
- Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett took the red carpet by storm in her sleek black dress, with a hot pink flared ruffled strip by Greta Constantine. Even though Bassett wasn’t nominated, she could have definitely won “Best Dressed.” The dress was perfectly designed for her figure, and the structure of the dress highlighted her curves. Angela Bassett made history this year as being one of the “Highest Paid Black Actresses In TV History.” Angela also demonstrated excellent use of high glamour, per usual. Bassett is always an inspiration to others, including myself. Fun Fact: Angela Bassett penned the foreword to my first book: Bold & Blessed.
2. Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor-Joy also showcased her take on Old Hollywood glamour wearing multiple shades of yellow in Dior Haute Couture. The Queen’s Gambit star was nominated for “Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited or Anthology Series or Movie” for her role as Beth Harmon. The bold red lip, sleek updo, and elegant use of satin was a welcome addition to this year’s event. This pop of color was a great way to end the summer.
3. Dan Levy
Dan Levy, showrunner, writer, director-producer, and actor, most known for Schitt’s Creek (a personal favorite) also brought color to the red carpet. Valentino designed a bold blue monochromatic look for Levy. The suit jacket included a wrap tie, which added much-needed dimension. The chunky shoes also showed more of Dan’s iconic personality. Dan was nominated for one award this year, which was “Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series” for guest hosting on Saturday Night Live. Dan Levy also wore a pair of his iconic glasses—that have not yet been released—from his glass line, D.L. Eyewear. I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair!
4. Regé-Jean Page
Universal heartthrob, and Bridgerton star Regé Jean Page, did not disappoint on the red carpet. Wearing an all-black ensemble by Giorgio Armani, Page’s jacket feathered subtle stitching to mimic waves. The use of a wavy texture could be a satirical element since he has made plenty of waves in the last year. Deep blue, suede loafers were a choice to the black ensemble. Even though he was not a winner for “Lead Actor In a Series”, he’s still a winner in my book.
5. Yara Shahidi
Fresh off the plane from Harvard University, Yara Shahidi was stunning again on this year’s Emmys red carpet. This gorgeous green look was Dior Haute Couture, styled by Jason Bolden. Yara presented the “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” to Brett Goldstein of Ted Lasso. This look was nothing short of classic, from Dior’s newest Global Brand Ambassador. The pairing of skin tone pumps with a gold necklace truly elevated the look. If Yara was jet-lagged, we would never have known it! Fun Fact: Yara had to leave the Emmys early so she could get back to Boston in time for class.
6. Billy Porter
Multi-award winner actor and activist Billy Porter did not disappoint at this year’s Emmys. Porter wore trousers and a turtleneck with beautiful architecture on the shoulders,created by Ashi Studios, with the turtleneck featuring Lorraine Schwartz Jewels. The look captured the essence of a black swan, accessorized with Porter’s vibrant personality. The fierce poses given by Billy were amazing as always. Emmy award-winning actor Billy Porter was nominated for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.”
7. Issa Rae
Newlywed Issa Rae wore a silver, shimmery net gown by Aliétte. The writer, actor, and producer accessorized her look with a custom diamond grill by Grillz by Scotty. Diamond rings and silver leaf earrings were a few of her other accessories for the night. Issa Rae was also nominated for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series” and “Outstanding Variety Sketch Series,” both for her work on A Black Lady Sketch Show.
8. Bowen Yang
The newSNL cast memberr Bowen Yang shocked everyone on his trip to this year’s red carpet. With a beachy theme, Yang wore a classic black and white suit with a major twist: a shiny seashell brooch from Tiffany and Co. and silver platform heels from Syro. The writer and actor was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” for his work on SNL. Bowen is no stranger to displaying his personality through his fashion, and this year’s Emmy’s was no exception.
