Staying healthy on campus may be super hard to do. You are in a new place and have to get assimilated to a new schedule. It may be super scary, and super overwhelming but you cannot forget to be physically active when on campus!

Personally, I am on the cheer team, so I work out there but you can also get a group of friends together to go to the gym or even to the Quad and get a nice workout. Working out releases endorphins, which can make you feel happier and less stressed. You do not have to go to the gym to get a good workout, do yoga in your room or go on runs around campus. Just stay active!

Eating healthy is also important. I know certain food options you have on campus may be hard for you to eat healthy, but I have a few tips and tricks for you! Try to avoid fried foods. Of course, once in a while is totally okay, but eating fried foods everyday is not good for your body. Eat vegetables and fruits instead. At Lockes, you can make your own salad and put whatever you want in it. You should eat multiple meals everyday; it is so unhealthy to skip meals and it is not safe for your body.

Make sure to get enough sleep. College definitely can be stressful: all those assignments, clubs, sports, work, etc., but sleep does not only affect your mind, it affects your body too. About 70% of college students are sleep deprived.  Your body needs to get enough sleep because it keeps a normal metabolism. Metabolism is important for regulating your weight; it is suggested that each college student gets eight hours of sleep.

It is most important that you do not focus so much on body image. Do not focus on hitting that number on the scale; you do not have to lose weight because you came to college. As long as you are making smart choices about your physical and mental health, you will be okay. Just stay healthy, happy, and safe!
