Ethan Poisson: Get to Know Who the TikTok Star Really Is

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Currently racking up over 1.3 million followers on TikTok and over 100K followers on Instagram, if you don’t know who Ethan Poisson is yet, you’re missing out. But he is also one of my best friends, so maybe I’m a little biased. But not to fear! I’m here to introduce you.

If his name sounds familiar, it’s because Ethan makes popular comedic videos on the video-sharing app, TikTok. He’s had wild success with it, growing rapidly over the past year with a total over of 110 million likes, and he continues to grow today. If I had to describe Ethan’s time on TikTok thus far, I would say it’s been far from uneventful. To put it in perspective, he has ended up on the news (multiple times!) under the name “Cletus Bartholomew” earlier this year and even got “accepted” into countless colleges, all started by a joke made by a fan.

I’ve had the privilege of being friends with Ethan since middle school, and one thing is for sure: he is as hilarious in real life as he is in his videos. But there’s so much more to him than his goofy online persona that not everyone gets to see.

Whether he has 100 followers or one million, I can personally say that Ethan has never faltered or lost sight of his true genuine and humble self. He’s talented, hardworking and so deserving of everything he achieves. Especially in 2021, sometimes it can be a rare sight to see influencers making content for more than a quick buck or five seconds of fame. But practically anyone with eyes can tell that Ethan really does love making content and he does a great job at it too.

But enough of me bragging about my friend! I recently sat down with the man himself and asked him a few questions about his journey making content on TikTok!

HerCampus (HC): Hey, Ethan! Tell us about yourself!

Ethan Poisson (EP): Hi! I’m Ethan Poisson! I am a freshman at UNC Greensboro, my favorite color is green, and I love sushi.

HC: How and when did you start getting into creating content on TikTok?

EP: I started making videos in October of 2019. I honestly just started making them because I love creating videos. When I was younger, I used to always make funny videos with my friends, and we would even post them on YouTube. When TikTok became popular, I realized that I wanted to also create videos on there.

HC: Have you seen a difference in your day-to-day life since blowing up on Tiktok? And if so, how?

EP: Getting recognized in public has definitely been a difference. I never thought that I would get to a point on social media where people wanted to take pictures of me in the middle of a Target.

HC: What’s the most challenging part about being a content creator?

EP: I think the most challenging thing is being consistent. I have this weird pressure that I’ve put on myself to try and post a video at least once a day or else I’m going to fall off the face of the Earth. Even though I know that if I take a little break, I’ll be fine, I still worry that I may be forgotten.

HC: What‘s your favorite part about being a content creator?

EP: My favorite part is being able to put a smile on so many faces. I know that sounds cheesy, but I genuinely love seeing all the laughs in the comments of my videos.

HC: Who are some of your favorite content creators on TikTok?

EP: Some of my favorites include @janewickline, @tannertan36, and @duncanyounot.

HC: What are some of your interests outside of TikTok?

EP: I am majoring in Musical Theatre! I’ve been doing theatre almost all my life and I hope to continue it for a while.

HC: What’s something that most of your fans probably don’t know about you?

EP: Something some of my fans may not know about me is that I’m actually very shy in person. I have a very outgoing and loud personality on TikTok but I’m not like that when I first meet someone.

HC: And lastly, if you got to ask yourself 5 years in the future a question, what would it be?

EP: I would probably ask if Rihanna has released music LOL. Just kidding. I would ask myself what I’m doing after college because I have no idea where I’m going to be in 5 years.

If you haven’t checked Ethan’s videos out already, head over to TikTok and follow him! (@ethanp0iss0n)
