In America: A Lexicon of Fashion

The 2021 Met Gala took place on Monday, September 13 and all of our favorite celebs did not come to play. While my overall impression was underwhelming, there were still some amazing looks from last night. Here are my personal faves!

10. Zoë Kravitz

Kravitz showed up to Arrivals with her bae Channing Tatum (already a flex). She wore a fully crystal beaded Saint Laurent sheer gown. The look was very cheeky but still classy. I loved her look and thought it went with the theme of American fashion.

9. Saweetie

Saweetie wore a custom Christian Cowan gown that represented her heritage. The dress had 3 panels that were the colors of the Filipino flag. I loved her hair, jewelry, and nails almost as much as I loved her gown. She had a simple bob cut, but her jewelry was perfectly shimmery and looked amazing.

8. Hailee Steinfeld

I did not recognize Steinfeld when I saw her on the red carpet. She had her hair & eyebrows bleached with an amazing cream colored dress. The silhouette was amazing and very unique.

7. Jennifer Lopez

J. Lo looked abosolutely incredible in her Ralph Lauren dress & cowgirl hat. I thought her look fit the theme, taking on an Old Western vibe.

6. Lili Reinhart

Reinhart’s custom Christian Sirano dress was elegant and sweet. It was a baby pink with a sheer train. The dress had all 50 states’ flowers to honor the theme.

5. Kendall Jenner

Jenner did not disappoint this year. She wore a sheer Givenchy gown beaded with rhinestones. She was looking to resemble Audrey Hepburn.

4. Anok Yai

Yai wore an amazing Oscar de la Renta black gown with amazing crystal detailing. She was adorned with elegant jewelry and simplistic makeup.

3. Billie Eilish

Another Oscar de la Renta look was Billie Eilish. She was channeling Marilyn Monroe in a peach colored ball gown and blonde bob haircut. Eilish agreed to wear this gown on one condition. She demanded that designer de la Renta’s brand end fur sales as she is an animal right activist.

2. Emma Chamberlain

Chamberlain was taking on 1960s Hollywood in her Louis Vuitton geometric gold dress. Her hair and makeup were also 60s vibes. Her dress’ symmetry was very interesting and she took on a look that we haven’t seen from her before.

1. Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X take the win for my favorite look at this year’s Met Gala. He showed up to Arrivals in a gold Versace cape that was very regal-looking. The look didn’t stop there– Once he took the cape off he was in a C3PO style gold knight ensemble. After that, he was in a black and gold shimmery bodysuit. His looks were absolutely incredible and definitely made a bold statement.

I hope you enjoyed my review! I love red carpets and while I have no real knowledge of fashion, I love to see everyone’s looks.
